Automotive Industry Update: Haley Tek, BlackBerry, Aperia, Geotab, SiriusXM, and Toyota in Focus
In a groundbreaking partnership, HaleyTek, BlackBerry, and Toyota have joined forces to develop next-generation automotive infotainment systems. The collaboration leverages Android Automotive OS alongside BlackBerry’s QNX technologies, aiming to revolutionise in-car digital experiences.
HaleyTek, a specialist in in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) applications and solutions, brings deep expertise in creating seamless, user-friendly infotainment experiences for modern vehicles. As an Android Automotive app and system integrator, HaleyTek will be at the forefront of this innovative project.
BlackBerry contributes its proven QNX real-time operating system (RTOS) and foundational software platform for automotive safety and cybersecurity. QNX offers a highly reliable, secure foundation for running critical vehicle functions and safety systems, ensuring robust performance and protection in connected vehicles.
Toyota, a global leader in automotive manufacturing, is integrating these advanced infotainment systems into its vehicles. By adopting Android Automotive OS and BlackBerry QNX, Toyota aims to offer drivers an enhanced, secure, and integrated digital experience with improved functionality, app availability, and system reliability.
The partnership's objective is threefold:
- To combine Android Automotive OS, which provides a flexible, customizable infotainment interface and ecosystem, with BlackBerry QNX’s secure, safety-certified platform.
- To accelerate the development and deployment of infotainment systems that optimise both user experience and vehicle safety/cybersecurity.
- To enable Toyota to deliver cutting-edge, connected vehicle technologies while maintaining a high standard of operational safety and security.
In addition to this collaboration, HaleyTek and BlackBerry have launched a new cockpit software platform called GAP for next-generation infotainment systems. Participating Toyota and Lexus dealerships can now add a three-year Extended Service Subscription to new models featuring the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia and Lexus Interface.
This three-year subscription provides access to SiriusXM directly through the vehicle and the SiriusXM app. Subscribers can enjoy new programming launches year-round, as well as new features and updates both in the SiriusXM app and over-the-air in select newer vehicles.
Moreover, the integration of Halo Connect add-in simplifies and streamlines pre-trip tire pressure inspections down to one click in the Geotab Drive app, saving valuable time. With Halo Connect integrated, drivers can access tire health data directly from the Geotab Drive app without pairing to a gateway or downloading a new application.
The three-year subscription's cost will be added to the vehicle's purchase or lease price. It's important to note that Extended Service Subscriptions are not transferable to another radio/vehicle, are not redeemable for cash or credit, and are not eligible for any refund.
BlackBerry QNX and HaleyTek are dedicated to ensuring their platforms meet and further enable the next generation of cockpit consolidation and better ecosystem and consumer experiences based on software. BlackBerry QNX is providing the QNX Hypervisor for Safety and QNX Sound platform for GAP.
GAP offers access to Software Defined Audio (SDA) and VirtIO, two long-awaited enabling technologies for next-generation automotive cockpits. SDA delivers superior software-based acoustic and audio experiences for consumers, enabling Bill-of-Material (BOM) savings and new subscription revenue opportunities.
Aperia Technologies Inc. has integrated Geotab's unique open platform and SDK to provide Halo Connect on the Geotab Marketplace. Toyota is participating in this program, allowing dealerships to include the Extended Service Subscriptions to SiriusXM’s audio entertainment services with the purchase of select new vehicles.
In summary, this strategic partnership between HaleyTek, BlackBerry, and Toyota promises to redefine the future of automotive infotainment systems, delivering enhanced digital experiences and safety features for drivers.
