Polestar is issuing a recall for over 27,800 Polestar 2 electric vehicles in the U.S., due to the potential risk that the rearview camera display may not show an image when reversing.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalled 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles might experience visualization issues with the rearview camera display while in reverse and display a "Camera is temporarily unavailable" notice.

A faulty rearview camera display can increase the risk of accidents, as per the NHTSA.

The production of the potentially affected Polestar 2s took place between July 2020 and late November of last year.

The root cause of the problem is a synchronization error between the Parking Assist Camera (PAC) and the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU), as well as an issue in the IHU's video receiving hardware, as mentioned in the Polestar recall report.

The affected Polestar 2 owners can expect to receive recall notices by June 19, as stated in the NHTSA report.
