Austrian Companies Show Interest in Recruiting More Skilled Filipinos
Austrian Companies Expand Recruitment Drive for Skilled Filipino Professionals
In response to rising labor demand in various sectors, Austrian companies are intensifying efforts to recruit Filipino professionals, particularly in healthcare, technology, hospitality, and engineering, according to Arnulf Gressel, commercial counsellor of the Austrian Embassy Commercial Section.
During a trade delegation's business mission in Cebu, Gressel explained that Austria is actively seeking recruitment partnerships in the Philippines due to an increasing labor shortage. "Filipinos have the qualifications and skill sets that meet our needs," Gressel stated, emphasizing the assurance the Filipino system provides to both parties.
The Austrian delegation met with executives of Magsaysay People Resources Corp., Magsaysay Global Services, and the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, as well as local officials and business chambers. While healthcare remains a priority, there is also growing demand for professionals in tourism, metalworking, machinery, and IT.
Gressel highlighted Austria as an appealing long-term destination, offering permanent residency options, spousal and family visas, and a high quality of life, drawing attention as one of Europe's most attractive destinations for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
According to a 2024 report, over 5,000 Filipinos reside in Austria, primarily employed in the hospitality, food service, and healthcare sectors. Marlon Rono, president of Magsaysay People Resources, reported that over 100 Filipinos have been deployed by the company to Austria in the hospitality sector since last year. Currently, the company is training 150 healthcare workers for deployment, with German language training taking up to seven months.
Rono emphasized the strong labor protections, high wages, and quality of life in Austria, making it an attractive choice for OFWs. "Filipinos stand out for their strong work ethic, compassionate nature, well-rounded education, and English proficiency," Rono stated.
The recruitment trend indicates significant opportunities for OFWs, appealing with stable and higher-paying jobs, career growth, skills development, and long-term integration into European society. Unofficial financial remittances and expertise gained by returning workers can support families and communities back home while broadening the range of overseas opportunities for Filipinos.
In conclusion, Austrian companies are increasing their recruitment of skilled Filipino professionals due to workforce shortages, well-established bilateral labor partnerships, and the strong professional qualities of Filipino workers. This trend provides numerous professional benefits and contributes positively to Austria’s labor market needs.
