Apple's Music App Enhancements Arrive with iOS 26 Release
Apple Music, a renowned streaming service, has introduced a range of new features with its latest update, iOS 26, released on Sept. 15.
One of the notable additions is the lyric translation and pronunciation guides. These guides are now available for English to Chinese (Simplified), English to Japanese, Korean to Chinese (Simplified), Korean to English, Korean to Japanese, and Spanish to English. Pronunciation guides are also available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. However, it's important to note that these features are only available on certain songs and are limited in the languages they can translate to and from.
Another exciting feature is AutoMix, which blends one song into the next, creating a seamless listening experience. AutoMix can be enabled or disabled through the Apple Music settings. Its success, however, depends on the songs being played.
Apple Music's update also includes playlist folders for the iPhone, allowing users to organize their music more efficiently. Additionally, new home screen widgets have been introduced, including medium- and large-size widgets for pinned music and a large Live Radio widget.
The update also includes call screening, new ringtones, and hidden features for iPhones. Apple Music costs $11 a month, making it slightly cheaper than its competitor, Spotify, which charges $12 a month. As of June 2024, Apple Music had about 94 million paid subscribers, compared to Spotify's 276 million.
There is no public information about any specific band or artist using the song translation and pronunciation aid feature introduced in Apple Music with iOS version 26. However, the platform now supports Hindi to Romanized translation, Cantonese to Jyutping, Korean to Katakana, and Punjabi to Romanized translation, expanding its reach to a global audience.
Lastly, some album artwork in Apple Music now animates on the lock screen in iOS 26, adding a touch of visual appeal to the user experience. As always, Apple continues to innovate and improve its music streaming service, providing users with an ever-evolving platform to enjoy their favorite tunes.
