App Could Integrate 'Images' Stream for Inspiration Sourcing in Google

Google is reportedly developing a new "Images" feed for its main app, similar to the visual inspiration board people use on Pinterest. This feed will cater to users' preferences by showcasing curated images related to their specified topics, rendering it particularly useful for fashion and home decor inspiration.

The presence of a "Save ideas and get inspired" splash page signals a personalization process, where users will select multiple topics for the feed to generate a tailored visual display. The exploratory code indicates that the upcoming "Images" tab will stand alongside options in the main app's bottom row once rolled out.

The initial feed, appearing on a "For You" page, will showcase large images relevant to the topics selected by the user, paired with the source underneath each image. Early sightings of the "save to collection" option suggest that users will be able to classify and revisit their saved images to spark further creativity.

Google has been working on revamping its design language, Material 3 Expressive, to make the user interface more vibrant and emotional. This expansive design language might be weaved into the Photos app to create a more modern design aesthetic, with heart-shaped cutouts over memories and a "create memory" button.

The new "Images" feed might include commercial elements to improve Google's position in image-related search queries and retain advertising revenue as AI services like ChatGPT emerge as competitors. By offering a more engaging, visually driven way to discover products and ideas within its ecosystem, Google aims to keep users invested in commerce-related searches.

Details of the rollout or official unveiling of the "Images" feed were speculated to coincide with this year's Google I/O developer conference, along with other AI and creative enhancements by the tech giant.

Users will find the "save to collection" option in the new "Images" feed, allowing them to categorize and revisit their saved images for continued inspiration and creativity. With the inclusion of commercial elements, this feed may enhance Google's standing in image-related search queries, ensuring continued advertising revenue in the face of competitors like AI services.
