Annual Hackathon Event in 2025: Far-reaching Fish Feeder Competition - Aquassist Participation

In the 2025 Pet Hacks Contest, a novel fish feeding system called Aquassist has been submitted. This automated fish feeder, primarily 3D-printed, requires a servo and a microcontroller for remote control, catering to pet owners with finned friends.

The Aquassist consists of six 3D-printed components, highlighted by an Archimedes screw mechanism that ensures a regular supply of fish food. A compact food hopper rests atop the device, and all printed components are designed to bond together for minimal parts.

At the heart of the operation lies a Wemos D1 mini, a compact ESP8266 board programmable via the Arduino IDE. The feeding mechanism relies on an SG90 continuous rotation servo, delivering ample torque to rotate the Archimedes screw and dispense food.

Remote control of the Aquassist is facilitated through a user-friendly web application, allowing settings adjustment from any device. The D1 Mini connects with Firebase to check the feeding schedule or respond to the "Feed Now" button presses. Users can establish feeding times or opt for immediate feeding through the app's intuitive interface.
