Anker expands its power bank recall with an additional five models

In a recent announcement, electronics manufacturer Anker has issued a major recall for five of its most popular charging devices due to a potential safety issue. The recall affects over one million power banks, with the possibility of more devices being added in the future.

The affected power banks, which include the Anker Power Bank (10K) - Model A1257, Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, Built-In USB-C Cable) - Model A1647, Anker MagGo Power Bank (10,000mAh) - Model A1652, Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) - Model A1681, and Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, Built-In USB-C Cable) - Model A1689, are at risk of overheating, melting, smoking, or catching fire due to faulty lithium-ion battery cells.

Anker has urged owners of these specific power banks to check their model numbers immediately and take the following safety precautions:

1. Do not attempt to use or charge the recalled power banks. 2. Mark the device clearly with "recall" and your contact information. 3. Fill out the recall form on Anker’s official website to receive a replacement or an Anker.com gift card as compensation. 4. Dispose of the power banks at a designated lithium-ion battery hazardous waste facility, rather than regular household trash, to prevent environmental harm and fire risks.

If the power bank shows any signs of overheating, smoke, or fire, it is essential to immediately contact emergency services rather than trying to manage the situation yourself.

Anker has stated that the recall is being made "out of an abundance of caution" to ensure the safety of its customers. The company encourages owners to properly dispose of recalled devices at authorized electronics recycling facilities, such as those available at local hardware stores like Home Depot.

This is the second recall announced by Anker this month, emphasizing the importance of addressing safety concerns promptly. With the potential for more devices to be added to the recall list, customers are advised to stay informed and follow safety guidelines to minimize the risk of injury and property damage related to the recalled power banks.
