Android users now experience a four-colored glow for the Gemini overlay on Google, during a recent update.
The Gemini app, a popular AI-powered tool by Google, has recently undergone an update, bringing new features and a refreshed look to its users.
Starting in late June, the update to a four-color palette began rolling out, with the Android overlay starting to appear in early July. This update is now largely complete, with one small exception. The new animation has two stages: an initial launch with red, yellow, green, and blue, followed by a dominant light blue replacing everything else. The ring indicator around the microphone is also the same shade as the dominant light blue.
The new homescreen icon, widget, and system Share sheet targets are all managed by the Gemini app from the Play Store, while the actual experience is powered by "Google Gemini". The old icon is still present in the Recents multitasking menu. The refresh of the website also softened the sparkle icon, mirroring the changes on the app.
One of the key new features is the Guided Learning mode, which offers step-by-step explanations tailored to deepen understanding rather than quick answers. It also integrates rich visuals like images, diagrams, and YouTube videos directly in responses to make learning more engaging.
In addition to Guided Learning, the Gemini app can now create custom storybooks, comics, and more. These features aim to make the app more versatile and engaging for users.
The update is available for stable users on Google app 16.30 in the Play Store. It's important to note that the update does not provide new information about the availability or changes in the Android overlay, website refresh, or the homepage greeting color.
The Gemini app offers a mix of free and paid features, with recent updates enhancing AI reasoning, productivity, learning, and privacy controls. The app is organized into three main subscription tiers: Free, Google AI Pro ($19.99/month), and Google AI Ultra ($249.99/month), each unlocking progressively more advanced capabilities and usage limits.
These enhancements position Gemini as a versatile AI app combining powerful reasoning, productivity integration, personalized learning, and user privacy controls targeted to both general users and students. The most cutting-edge features remain exclusive to the higher-tier Google AI Ultra plan, reflecting a tiered approach balancing access and capability.
