Amazon's Kindle 2 is Currently Unavailable for Purchase
The electronic device that has been lapped up in droves by readers worldwide, the Kindle e-reader manufactured by Amazon, is currently out of stock. This out-of-stock status may be an indication of the release of a new model, as rumours of its arrival have been circulating.
According to these rumours, the new Kindle e-reader is expected to be thinner and have a sharper display. It is also speculated that it will not feature a touch screen interface or a color display, a departure from some of the latest trends in the e-reader market.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has previously stated that both the Kindle and Amazon's bookstore have reached a "tipping point." This suggests that the e-reader has found a sweet spot with consumers, a sentiment supported by the tripling of sales for Amazon's e-readers after the price was lowered to $189.
The Kindle DX, the current model available for purchase, retails for $379. However, the Kindle 2, an earlier model, has been replaced with the Kindle DX on the official Amazon home page, hinting at the possibility of a new model.
It is important to note that there is no confirmed announcement of a new physical Kindle device version for August 2025. However, a new Kindle software update version 5.18.5 was released around this time, featuring new accessibility tools such as the Assistive Reader with Text-to-Speech, adjustable interface text size, new text spacing options, and a screen rotation lock.
The sale of Kindle titles surpassed their hardcover counterparts at Amazon's online marketplace for the first time since inception, further underscoring the popularity of the device.
