AirBaltic Cancels Thousands of Summer Flights Due to Engine Issues
AirBaltic has announced significant flight cancellations this summer 2025, affecting approximately 67,160 passengers. The disruptions, caused by engine maintenance issues with Pratt & Whitney, have led to reduced frequencies on 21 routes and the complete cancellation of 19 routes.
The airline has been forced to ground some of its A220-300 fleet due to engine shortages, with no specific timeline for their return. This summer alone, airBaltic has had to cancel 4,670 flights, highlighting the severity of the issue.
The problem stems from global supply chain issues and maintenance restrictions, with Pratt & Whitney struggling to meet its obligations. AirBaltic is working closely with the engine manufacturer to find a long-term solution. In the meantime, affected passengers are advised to check their bookings and explore alternative flights or request refunds.
AirBaltic is supporting affected customers by offering rebooking or full refunds for canceled flights. However, unlike previous incidents such as the kerosene shortage at Hamburg Airport in October 2025, the airline has not published specific measures to assist passengers during the current flight disruptions. Passengers are urged to stay informed about their flight status and contact the airline or their travel agent directly for rebooking or cancellations.
