Boris FX has announced a significant update to its Emmy Award-winning plugin collection, Sapphire, introducing new AI-powered masking and tracking tools. The latest version, Sapphire 2025.5, aims to elevate visual effects workflows by automating and simplifying complex operations.

One of the key additions in Sapphire 2025.5 is the integration of Mocha planar tracking and spline-based tools directly within the software. This integration allows users to automatically detect and track multiple faces throughout a shot, enabling precise control over multiple tracked elements with AI assistance. This feature is particularly useful for privacy masking, selective blurring, or advanced colour correction.

Moreover, users can manage tracked splines inside Sapphire’s Mocha interface or import Mocha Pro or Mocha AE projects for advanced masking and tracking tasks. The integration also extends access to many advanced UltraZap features with Mocha splines, previously available only in Adobe After Effects, now available across all supported hosts.

Sapphire 2025.5 also introduces two new AI masking and tracking tools - Object Brush ML and Matte Assist ML. Object Brush ML enables one-click masking with automatic spline generation, while Matte Assist ML creates a full animated matte from a single frame.

In addition to these AI enhancements, Sapphire 2025.5 features a sleek new look with cleaner layouts, refined controls, and a more intuitive user experience. It is available as a plugin collection with various pricing options, including subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and perpetual licenses.

Subscriptions start at $545 per year or $80 per month. Windows users with the specified AMD GPUs experience faster rendering speeds and smoother interactivity within all host applications.

Sapphire 2025.5 also introduces a collection of eight new cinematic flares created by veteran VFX artists, based on real-world references from blockbuster films and TV.

Media inquiries about Sapphire should be directed to Jessie Electa Petrov, Director of Marketing at Boris FX, at jessiep@pur socials.com or 617-451-9900.

Customers on current Sapphire subscriptions or upgrade & support plans receive the 2025.5 release as a free update. Sapphire 2025.5 supports host applications such as Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and various OFX hosts. It also supports GPU acceleration for AMD RadeonTM PRO W6000 and W7000 Series, as well as the AMD RyzenTM AI Max PRO Series.

The new AI tools in Sapphire 2025.5 aim to simplify complex VFX workflows, making it easier to isolate, animate, and precisely apply effects. These features significantly enhance Sapphire’s capabilities for handling challenging masking and tracking scenarios with AI and planar tracking technology.

The integration of Mocha planar tracking and spline-based tools in Sapphire 2025.5 allows users to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) for precise control over multiple tracked elements, such as for privacy masking, selective blurring, or advanced color correction.

In addition to these AI enhancements, the new Object Brush ML and Matte Assist ML tools in Sapphire 2025.5 simplify complex VFX workflows by providing one-click masking and creating full animated mattes from a single frame, further expanding Sapphire’s capabilities with AI and technology.
