Agility Robotics' Digit Robot Demonstrates Potential in Factory Line Duties as New International Safety Regulation Approaches

Agility Robotics' Digit robot has been making waves in the manufacturing industry, collaborating with Zebra Technologies' autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.

In a demonstration at Automate 2025, Digit showcased its ability to handle line-side loading and unloading operations, working seamlessly with Zebra AMRs to move parts around the factory floor [1]. This integration is made possible through cloud-to-cloud signaling, allowing Digit to communicate with the AMRs and coordinate tasks effectively.

One of the key features that enable Digit's precision in the manufacturing environment is its QR code scanning capability. These QR codes serve a dual purpose: they help identify the parts that Digit is handling, and they aid in localizing its position relative to fixed equipment like flow racks [1]. This visual system, combined with Digit’s sensor suite, helps manage workflow accuracy and efficiency in tight factory environments.

The use of QR codes contributes significantly to the effectiveness of Digit in manufacturing settings. Agility Robotics' chief product officer, Melonee Wise, highlighted this during the demo, where Digit was seen unloading parts and reloading the AMR [1].

Digit's development is not limited to this collaboration. Agility Robotics is also involved in the development of ISO 25875, a new safety standard for "dynamically stable industrial mobile manipulators" [2]. This commitment to safety and innovation underscores Agility Robotics' dedication to pushing the boundaries of robotics technology.

The deployments of Digit at GXO and Schaeffler further demonstrate the capabilities of these robots in real-world applications [3]. As the manufacturing industry continues to evolve, it's clear that human-robot collaboration, such as that demonstrated by Digit and Zebra's AMRs, will play a significant role in shaping the future of production.
