New MG4 Urban Electric Hatchback to Debut in Australia

The MG Motor Company is set to introduce a new front-wheel-drive (FWD) variant of its popular electric hatchback, the MG4 Urban, in Australia and other markets from the second quarter of 2026.

The FWD MG4 Urban will offer an affordable, city-focused option, complementing the existing rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions. This new model will feature a different platform and styling, making it a distinct addition to the MG4 lineup.

Regarding battery pack options, the MG4 Urban will offer two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery capacities:

  • A 43 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 437 km (about 272 miles)
  • A 54 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 530 km (about 329 miles)

These battery options replace the older 51 kWh and 77 kWh battery options previously available on RWD/AWD models, which will be phased out.

The MG4 Urban will continue to be powered by a single 120 kW (161 hp) front-mounted electric motor, producing 250 Nm torque, and will have a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).

The new MG4 Urban started accepting pre-orders in China in August 2025, and deliveries are expected to begin before the end of 2025. Pricing details for the Australian market will likely be announced in the first quarter of 2026.

This move by MG Motor Australia reflects a strategic approach to offer more affordable electric vehicles while maintaining higher-spec RWD and AWD models with larger batteries separately.

Here's a summary of the key features and details of the new MG4 Urban:
