Adobe Introduces Premium Enhancements for Premiere Pro, Fueled by the Novel Firefly Video Architecture
Adobe has made significant strides in the realm of video editing, announcing a series of new features and tools powered by its generative AI model, Firefly. The latest updates, available in beta, are set to revolutionise workflows in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Substance 3D, and Frame.io.
Enhanced 3D Workspace and Deeper Substance 3D Integration
After Effects now boasts an enhanced 3D workspace and deeper integration with Substance 3D, providing artists with a more seamless experience when working with 3D models and textures. The new "Send to After Effects" feature in Substance 3D Painter streamlines the transfer of textured 3D models for use in motion graphics.
Firefly-Powered Innovations
The Firefly-powered Generative Extend tool is a standout feature, extending audio clips to fill ambient room tones and generating new frames at the beginning or end of a shot to smooth transitions in footage. This tool also simplifies the extension of video and audio clips to cover gaps, enhancing efficiency in the editing process.
New Video Editing Workflows in Premiere Pro
Adobe has released the beta version of new video editing workflows in Premiere Pro, powered by the Firefly Video Model (beta). This update includes a newly designed Premiere color management system (beta), which simplifies the color grading process, and faster ProRes exports, boosting efficiency for editors.
Camera to Cloud Ecosystem Expansion
Major camera brands like Canon, Nikon, and Leica have joined Frame.io's Camera to Cloud ecosystem, further integrating Adobe's video tools into the camera-to-editor workflow. The addition of custom metadata models allows teams to categorize assets more efficiently in Frame.io, improving organisation and collaboration.
Safety and Accountability
Adobe applies Content Credentials to certain Firefly-powered outputs to ensure transparency and accountability regarding the use of generative AI. The Firefly Video Model (beta) is designed to be safe for commercial use, as the model is trained on licensed and public domain content.
Performance Enhancements and Wider Camera Support
The updates in Premiere Pro also include major performance enhancements, and support for a wider range of cameras, including Canon, Sony, ARRI, and RED.
Recognition for Innovation
Adobe's video tools have powered many critically acclaimed projects in 2024, and the company recently received two Emmy awards for its contributions to television technology and innovation. The Firefly Video Model (beta) represents the first set of Firefly-powered video editing tools, with ongoing updates and availability expected in 2023 and beyond.
In Frame.io, Adobe has introduced new tools for simplifying complex collaboration and content workflows. The Firefly-powered Generative Extend (beta) tool is currently available in a limited public beta on firefly.adobe.com. Information on pricing will be provided once the Firefly Video Model moves out of beta.
