"25-year Heritage in Italian Digital Advancement: A Visionary Objective Unveils a Modern Data Center at Caldera"

In the heart of Italy, MIX, the Italian Internet Exchange Point, is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates 25 years of service. Originally established in 2000, MIX has been instrumental in Italy's digitalization journey, and its commitment to providing superior infrastructure and interconnection services remains unwavering.

MIX's future plans revolve around a significant technological upgrade, maintaining leadership in network interconnection services, and community engagement for education and industry collaboration. Key upcoming initiatives include the creation of a Temporary Advisory Board and the inauguration of DC3, a new data hall expansion.

The Temporary Advisory Board, established in June 2025, is tasked with supporting the development of a next-generation peering platform. Led by Mauro Roberto Magrassi, CTO of MIX, the board includes experts from major network operators such as Eolo, Aruba, MyNet, AMS-IX, and France-IX. This board operates transparently, providing regular updates to customers and the market to keep stakeholders informed about technological evolution and strategic decisions.

MIX's expansion continues with the inauguration of DC3, a new data hall expansion in the business park of Caldera. This expansion increases the data center's surface area to 1,400 m2 and maximum power to 2 MW, further enhancing MIX's capacity to handle high loads and support the digitalization of Italian businesses.

MIX's infrastructure, already redundant in two data centers, can handle loads up to six times higher, with a total capacity of 17 Tbps. The exchange point is also present in the main Italian data centers, providing extensive national coverage. MIX currently connects over 420 networks to its switches, with peak Internet traffic of 3 Tbps.

MIX's services are not limited to the technical aspects. The exchange point also focuses on education and community initiatives. Programmes such as MIX'COOL, aimed at IT-focused students, and networking events under the Salotto program help foster knowledge sharing and growth in the Italian internet ecosystem.

Despite being a capital company, MIX has consistently reinvested profits for the benefit of connected operators, reinforcing its mission of service to the country. MIX is a significant interconnection platform at the European level, managing 5 active IX edge locations to bring data closer to users, reduce latency, and improve digital experiences.

As MIX continues to write the story of Italian digitalization with passion, vision, and innovation, the expansion of its data center and the continuous development of services are key steps towards supporting the digitalization of Italian businesses. MIX's Executive President & Chairman, Alessandro Talotta, expresses pride and ambition regarding MIX's 25-year milestone, focusing on supporting the digitalization of Italian businesses. With these future plans in place, MIX is poised to continue leading the way in Italy's digital landscape.
